HUGE Thunderstorm

So turns out that Richmonders really find it difficult to deal with adverse weather conditions.  After arriving at work this past afternoon where the power was out, I decided to do what anyone would do if weather cancelled swim practice: go explore in Short Pump.  I was gonna head over to Trader Joe's and get a six-pack of a really good beer I tried the other day, but they were closed due to the same power outage.  Target, however, was open, but the lights were all off because the generators only powered the cash registers.  Talk about a fun experience.  Shopping at Target in the pitch black!

However, Richmond drivers have no idea how to handle traffic light outages, even in the broad daylight...  It is shocking that people seem to freeze up when it comes to broken redlights.  Henrico Police only showed up on the scene about 3 hours later, so that finally helped a little, but for three hours Henrico citizens ran rampant with no clue how to navigate the roadways.  Alas, it was still a fun afternoon.

Wow...It's Been A While

So I'm happy to report that things are going really well lately.

Summer is off to a great start.  With two triathlons (one great one and one awful one) under my belt, only one is left scheduled so far.  Then a few months off for training before the big half-Iron in September.

I am so thankful for my parents, who supported me this summer as I took a class at VCU to make my minor nearly completed and so I can focus more on my final classes in my last semester at JMU.  It seems odd that I should be leaving college in only a year... it feels like only yesterday Mom, Dad and Pierce were dropping me off in Weaver Hall before band camp.

It is going to feel really different this year going back for band camp... I will move myself in, check myself in for band camp, and have my last fall semester at JMU.

This summer's job is also going really well.  I have heard great feedback from my team parents about how things are going and I am so happy that things are going so smoothly.  It's hard to believe we are almost halfway through the season... how did that happen?

Shout-outs:

  • Chelsea Kidd:  Thanks for being so supportive!  I know that this new job has been crazy on my schedule, but I couldn't do it without you.  You really are an incredible person and I am so lucky to have you in my life!
  • Christian Hansen: Congratulations on the job!  I am so happy for you, and I am definitely gonna miss you this summer when you are in Boston.  I'm just happy to know you are only a few hours away this year.
  • Mom & Dad: Hope you are having a blast in Europe!  I am really jealous, but I know that I will get to have my fun travelling the globe someday.  Come back safely!
  • Pierce: Congrats on your summer job!  I know you are enjoying your experience.  Can't wait to help you move in to your big-boy apartment on Tuesday.  I know you are excited for that new stage of your life!
